12th ANNUAL PREMIERE FOR YOUNG FILMMAKERS
County Executive Steven Bellone announced the 12th Annual First Exposure screening event will be celebrating the work of Long Island’s high school student filmmakers on May 20 at the Cinema Arts Centre beginning at 4pm. A prestigious panel of industry professionals adjudicated the showcase, choosing the best films from the Long Island Media Arts Show (LIMAS) at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. LIMAS represents the work of more than 60 school districts with hundreds of submissions. Of these, only 13 films were selected for First Exposure.
County Executive Steve Bellone said, “filmmaking involves skillsets that embrace collaboration and creative expression which these young adults the opportunities to practice leadership and problem solving skills.”
Long Island has a long history of nurturing innovative filmmakers such as Yance Ford (“Strong Island”), Hal Hartley (“Trust”, The Girl from Monday”), Michael Campos (“A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story”, “Outcasts”), Hal Hartley (“Trust”, The Girl from Monday”), Fred Carpenter (“The Blue Lizard”), Michael Cuesta (“L.I.E.”), Alexandra Brodsky (“Bittersweet Place”), and Julian Schnabel (“Basquiat”, “Before Night Falls”). The Suffolk County Film Commission is committed to supporting and encouraging Long Island’s filmmakers by providing resources and creating opportunities for the community to appreciate and share in their achievements.

Emerging Film Festival 2017 Guidelines and Applications now released.
Workshop schedule announced
The Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs in tandem with the Suffolk County Motion Picture/Television Film Commission are now accepting funding applications for 2017. Eligible program activities should be directly related to, but not limited to, music, theater, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, architecture, literature, films and allied arts and crafts. Eligible applicants must have 501(c)3 tax exempt status or a fiscal sponsor. All applications will be reviewed and scored via a merit based grading system.
The Suffolk County 2017 Community Arts and Film grant application is available to applicants immediately in an electronic format at: www.suffolkartsandfilm.com, on the top of page, click on the Grant Opportunities and Info tab and look to the left for the specific program.

Suffolk County Film Commission partners NYWIFT
Members of the Suffolk County Film Commission with special guest Sean Young attended the New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) annual member event on Monday, September 12 at the NYC Fire Museum.
The Film Commission sponsored this event as well as NYWIFT's Designing Women and the Muse Awards.
"The Suffolk County Film Commission welcomes this introduction to filmmakers that may not be aware of our assets," said Diana Cherryholmes, Suffolk County Film Commissioner. "We jumped on the opportunity to introduce Kristen Jernigan, Executive Director of the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau to the attendees."
The Suffolk County Film Commission shares the values of NYWIFT's mission which supports women calling the shots in film, television and digital media. NYWIFT energizes the careers of women in entertainment by illuminating their achievements, providing training and professional development, and advocating for equality.
